Scientific Foundation
The Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT) is the result of a three-year research project at KU Leuven. It is a scientifically validated questionnaire that can determine burnout risk at a glance. The tool is designed to assess burnout complaints, not to diagnose burnout itself. Learn more about the official BAT on their official website.
As stated in the official manual: "No burnout diagnosis can be drafted solely on the basis of the BAT, or any other self-report burnout questionnaire. This requires a more extensive assessment, including an anamnestic and diagnostic interview by a trained professional."
Digital Implementation
We've implemented the BAT in our platform, creating an intuitive digital interface that guides users through the assessment process. Our implementation includes the work-related of the BAT, allowing for flexible assessment based on the individual's current work situation.
The digital version maintains the scientific integrity of the original tool while adding features like progress tracking, automatic scoring, and real-time feedback. Users can complete the assessment at their own pace, with the system automatically saving their progress.

Automated Scoring System
Our implementation includes a calculation module that processes the BAT responses in real-time. The system follows the official BAT scoring methodology, calculating scores for each dimension of burnout (exhaustion, mental distance, emotional impairment, and cognitive impairment) as well as the secondary symptoms.
The calculations are performed automatically as users complete the assessment, with immediate feedback provided at the end of the assessment in a PDF report. This automation ensures consistent and accurate scoring while eliminating the potential for human error in the calculation process.
PDF Report Generation
Using our custom docx-module, we've implemented a comprehensive PDF report generation system. After completing the assessment, users can download a detailed PDF report of their results, which includes their scores, interpretations, and recommendations.
The PDF reports are professionally formatted and include all necessary information for both the individual and their healthcare provider. The reports maintain the scientific validity of the BAT while presenting the information in a clear, accessible format.
